TGF-β (Transforming growth factor-β) signaling pathway plays an important role in the regulation of cell growth, differentiation, and embryogenesis and apoptosis. In general, signaling pathway is activated by binding its Receptor Type II which then phosphorylates the TGF beta Receptor Type I. The activated Receptor I then phosphorylate various SMAD molecules which accumulate in the nucleus and act as transcription factors resulting in cell-state specific modulation of transcription. The TGF beta is also involved in inflammation, immunity and cancer pathways.
